The weavery of Prince Albert was established in 1983, and in 2010 became known as Karoo Looms. Now specialising in the spinning, dying and handweaving of pure mohair rugs.
A visit to the weavery on your travels through Prince Albert is an absolute must, pop in and meet the highly skilled spinners and weavers and listen to the peacefulness as they sing soft tunes whilst working.
Positioned in the main road, next door to the Seven Arches building, the weavery is housed in the original bioskoop / cinema of Prince Albert, with it’s high pressed ceilings and rich history, which can be learnt of at the Fransie Pienaar museum directly opposite. The exterior of the building is adorned with the works of the late Kevin Hough, an artist who was well known to the community of Prince Albert at the time.
The weavery offers the visitor a wonderful experience in seeing the process involved whilst producing an entirely handmade mohair rug, a process which we invite you to partake in by customising a rug of your own which we will have shipped anywhere in the world for you.
The weavery gift shop also holds a range of exclusively designed rugs, along with a collection of fine weavings, from cushions to table runners, throws to bathmats and scarves to natural fibre knitting and crochet yarns.
Karoo Looms works with some of the worlds top designers and decorators, producing bespoke, exclusive rugs that boast quality, durability and pure luxury.
For any further information, please feel free to contact Sophia who will answer any questions and meet your requirements where possible.
Guided tours for larger groups can be organized, although this should please be arranged beforehand by contacting the weavery.
