A view of the Great Karoo
“Slow down and enjoy life. It’s not only the scenery you miss by going too fast – you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.” Eddy Cantor
Uitkyk House is a large, self-catering home which can accommodate six guests. Situated off the beaten track in the Waterkop area on the outskirts of Prince Albert (3km from the town centre), it offers spectacular views across the Great Karoo.
The lounge has a jetmaster fireplace to provide warmth and atmosphere on cold Karoo nights. Big, comfortable sofas call for you to settle in with a rug and a good book. The open fireplace on the verandah is under cover, a sheltered spot for barbecues (braais).
The verandah is ideal for al fresco dining at the generous ten-seater table on Summer evenings – in fact all year round. An even larger table indoors provides a cosy gathering place for meals during Winter.
The spacious, air-conditioned, open-plan, lounge – kitchen – dining area leads out onto a huge, covered verandah with a small swimming pool.
The house has three bedrooms, the main bedroom is en-suite, has a queen-sized bed and air-conditioning. The other bedrooms each have twin beds and fans and share a bathroom. All bed linen, duvets, hand and bath towels are provided.
The fully fitted kitchen has a fridge, gas and electric stoves, a micro-wave oven, crockery and cutlery to cater for at least a dozen people.
There is a separate scullery with washing machine and dishwasher.
The views across the Karoo are magnificent – you would think you were in the middle of nowhere – with all home comforts!
Yet a short drive brings you to Prince Albert with its excellent restaurants, art galleries, the Showroom Theatre and other attractions.
There is a supermarket, a butchery, Gay’s Dairy and Deli and the Saturday Market for any grocery shopping you might require.
