Journey to Jazz (J2J) is to be an annual event, inviting the jazz and arts traveler to come and enjoy a community dialogue about the incomparable Karoo kaleidoscope and its indomitable spirit of humans, co creating with nature.

This forward-thinking destination intends to celebrate and enhance youth engagement, local heritage and culture, using the noble sound of jazz music. This three-day festival will include an appealing array of venues across the town from the Swartberg Pass, the world class Showroom Theater and family park in Rondomskrik.

Intimate venues such as African Relish paired with food and wine and the glorious NG church in the heart of the town broadening the offering.

Prince Albert is a scenic town, at the foot of the UNESCO World heritage site, the majestic Swartberg Mountain range in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, a few hour’s drive, north of Cape Town. It is known for its wide-open vistas, water furrows, olive, mohair and fruit farms, a pristine and ecologically rich destination with a well-established hospitality sector with abundant eateries, artist studios, and a local produce market.

J2J is also a showcase of unique, cutting edge South African music talents and their international counterparts, at the intersection of ancient stories, ecology, jazz music and art, tastefully curated by leading artists from the town and surrounds. J2J is set to be a leading platform for up-and-coming artists, constantly creating spaces for fresh talent to access new ideas and audiences. The festival is directed at all key demographics and will match artistic experiences to their followers.

The program is designed to be inclusive: Gospel Jazz, to Big band, Choral and Spoken word. Award winning, South African composer and pianist, Bokani Dyer will serve as Artistic Director for the inaugural year of Journey to Jazz, bringing together an eclectic array of both national and international jazz musicians who represent the future of Jazz.

Running concurrently with the above at the local youth center, master classes and a teaching program with visiting artists will take place for those who wish to learn more, outreaches to schools and even pre-schoolers will be included in this part of the program, while in the main street of the town , food and craft stalls with live music will be the order of the day…and night.

Well known environmentalists and the local museum will offer walk abouts around the ecological and social history of the region. A diverse array of activities to fill the discerning jazz lovers diary.
