Prince Albert Chronicles – March April 2024
Lights, camera, and action in Prince Albert!
April saw us welcome back the talented cast and crew of Recipes for Love and Murder Season 2. Buildings changed colour and names, the streets were abuzz with lighting equipment rigs, and many Prince Alberters received their moment of fame as extras in the production. Oh what fun, and thank you to all involved for this wonderful economic boost.
If the Wall Street Journal declares us one of the coolest towns in South Africa, then it must be so! Thank you Mary Holland for this great article, please come back for a visit any time.
The Swartberg 100 Gran Fondo, part of the UCI Gravel World series, once again took place in beautiful Prince Albert and surrounds. Dedicated cyclists were determined to show the Swartberg Mountains who is boss, amongst them F1 driver Valtteri Bottas and his partner Tiffany Cromwell who took the elite women’s win.
We look forward to welcoming riders and supporters back again next year.
Another fabulous Prince Albert Gallery exhibition opening featuring Johan Bloom’s Landscape of Awe and Wehrner Lemmer’s The Glistening Earth. Pop in during the month of May to view these spectacular works and creations.
On the topic of all things art, eager artists braved unprecedented cooler April weather to attend representational artist Erika van Zyl’s four day Pleinair workshop.
Talented Erika guided participants to paint landscapes in natural moving light, while teaching the fundamentals of painting on location, even when Karoo rain is sent to challenge.
Look out for Erika’s Pleinair Retreat coming up in August, and the next Pleinair Workshop in October.
Escape to a dreamy Karoo farm stay where quirky corners inspire and serene tranquillity washes away any city stress.
Erina and Johan are the hosts of Watervalsrivier, you will feel their love the moment you get to the gate of this paradise. Erina’s stone men set the tone for what lies beyond, a thoughtfully curated farm space ideal for groups or couples wanting to immerse themselves in a Karoo wonderland.
Rooms have all the little details to make you feel right at home, and the communal spaces are an entertainer’s dream. The two old farm dams are now sparkly blue pools which give a sense of Karoo meets Bahamas, and for the creative souls there are spaces that are enough to inspire the next Wes Anderson film.
Book your stay and be transported to a world of wonder and comfort.
Visit the inspirational space that is the Karoo Souk where you will find a blacksmith forge, a weavery, and some of the very best coffee Prince Albert has brewing.
The newly opened retail store carries a range of unique handmade products and exclusive gifting, the space is a true Karoo working environment that encourages connection.
The friendliest barista is on standby to serve excellent coffees with a beaming smile, and delectable bites will keep you well sated while you take in the gorgeous koppie views.
Our resident ecologist, Sue Milton-Dean, can not wait to share her extensive knowledge on the geology, botany, natural and cultural history of Prince Albert.
Delve into nature by booking your biodiversity walk in the spectacular Wolwekraal Nature Reserve or breathtaking Swartberg Pass during your next Prince Albert visit.
